Optical Drives - Bluray

CD and DVD drives have been around for a long time, allowing for a maximum of 700mb and 4.7gb of data to be read or written respectively. Bluray on the other hand is brand new technology, allowing discs to hold up to a huge 25gb of data!

Two types of bluray optical drives exist;

Bluray Reader (ROM) - A reader allows the user to watch bluray movies on the computer or read data files stored on a bluray disc. CDR and DVDR media can also be read using these drives.

Bluray Burner (Writer) - A writer has the ability to "burn" data to a disc, essentially creating a disc with custom content. These discs can then be used in any bluray player. A bluray burner is also backwards compatible allowing them to write and read CDR and DVDR media.

Light scribe burners are also available which can also inscribe an image into the gold surface of the disc using the laser.
